Notes
Inspection conducted to evaluate modification application. Site was not active. Facility has proposed to eliminate Outfall 002 and 003. Facility has proposed to add SW001. Facility requested to add acreage that was outside of the permitted area when it was under previous ownership.
Vulcan has made significant improvements to the site since obtaining ownership in November 2019. They have improved 3 different culvert crossings under ARAP NR20MS.001. The improved crossings and grading have made it where drainage from the eastern portion of the site is now directed to the western portion of the site to the quarry pit. Since drainage in the eastern portion of the site is now directed to the western portion of the site, the facility does not plan to construct sediment pond 002 and 003 eliminating the need for Outfall 002 and 003.
I looked at the location for SW001 and it receives drainage from a small area. There are a series of check dams prior to reaching a rock filter berm where the stormwater will be discharged.
No discharge was observed at Outfall 001 at time of inspection. The water in the process water pond was significantly clearer than during previous inspections when it was under former ownership. The majority of the stormwater is now directed to the quarry pit prior to flowing to the process water pond. This seems to have significantly helped settle solids out prior to reaching the process water pond where Outfall 001 is located.
