TDEC inspectors, Daniel Lawrence, Chris Pracheil, and Becky Lenz went to the site to discuss WET testing and discuss next steps in the TIE/TRE process. TDEC inspectors met with Steven Turaski and Derek McCoy from Nyrstar and Sam Speed with Brenntag. Steven walked everyone through the current treatment system--2 pumps (one was not working currently; maximum combined flow rate is 2.88 mgd), 3 ponds, and approximate time from pipes to end of the discharge point is 6 hours at maximum flow. Mixing system, pH adjustments, and potential pond changes were discussed. Sam did a couple experiments showing effect of pH and mixing on the flocc to settle out the material.
TDEC will be back in May for sampling inspection and will take a WET test sample.
