Notes
Inspection conducted to look at the effectiveness of the stream restoration work at EP Minerals, Mine 6. I was accompanied by Mr. Alan Jare and Mr. Greg Greene with EP Minerals.
Weir dams #1, 2, and 3 all had evidence of a small scour hole present or forming behind the weir dam and under cutting was present at all 3 weir dams. Facility requested input from TDEC on how to correct these issues. I indicated to facility representatives I would talk with my manager and our biologist to get their input and get back with them.
The large natural occurring scour pool in the UNT to the UNT to Colonel Fork Creek located down-stream from the northernmost culvert crossing did not appear to have any significant amounts of new sediment present in it. This scour hole was once filled with sediment from the site. Facility removed sediment from this scour hole in September and October 2018. At the time of inspection the water was clear and I could see down to the bottom of the scour hole.
No discharge was observed at Outfall 001.
One of the facilities BMPs (silt dam 4) had washed out. I observed materials from which the silt dam was constructed in the UNT to the UNT to Colonel Fork Creek. Facility indicated they would clean the material out with shovels and repair the silt dam the next day. On 9-17-19 I received written and photo documentation of the repairs. The written explanation indicated the repairs were made the next day on 9-14-19.
